Trekking is an activity that involves either or both hiking and camping. One hikes into the countryside to spend one or more days, carrying supplies like water, food, tent, cooking equipment, safety gears in a backpack.

The famous guidelines when trekking are "Leave nothing but footprints, Take nothing but photos, Kill nothing but time and Keep nothing but memories".

Air Trekking

Like the name says, Air Trekking is an act of hiking through the jungle using different methods. You will be flying over from one tree to another, walking from a tree to another with just a line, abseiling down from a 30m tall tree and experience one of the longest flying fox about 100m. Besides Costa Rica, you can experience all these in Langkawi Island, Malaysia.

Safety is very important in Air Trekking. You be equip with all the safety equipment, like helmet and there will be 3 safety lines attached to you.

Jungle Trekking

Jungle trekking is where people escape from the hustle & bustle in the city life and hikes into the jungle to enjoy the nature. Some people do it to gain experience and self confidence. Some remote places that can't be reach by transport requires to trek in to explore the interesting natures (example Mulu Pinnacles in Sarawak, Malaysia).

The duration can be from few hours to few days. Recreation trekkers are advise to hire a guides before they begin the hikes. Some navigation skill are requires too if the trails are not clear.

Mountain Trekking

Mountain trekking is more challenging and it requires fitness. It depends on which mountain, some have a proper trail and easy to climb (like Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia), some need mentally prepared, carried a heavy backpack and hikes/camping for few days (like Mount Tahan in Pahang, Malaysia). One common problem among the hikers is AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness).

There are a lot of commercial mountain trekking around the world like Everest National Park, Mount Fansipan in North Vietnam and Mount AliSan in Taiwan. Most of these are guided trek.

Waterfall Trekking

Waterfall trek is where people hikes into nature to look for waterfall or spend a day picnic near by the fall. Some waterfall are easily access but some need long hour of hikes. Tee Lor Su fall in Umphang National Park, Thailand requires 11km trek to reach the camp site. More difficult waterfall trek is the Melinau Basin Fall in Sabah, also known as The Lost World of Sabah needs a 5 days 4 nights trek.

Waterfall picnic has become a very popular activities among the locals during the weekend.
