Sabah, together with Sarawak are the two states form the Malaysia portion of the island of Borneo. The capital of Sabah is Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton. Sabah also known as "the land below the wind", that's because it is located just south of the typhoon prone region around Philippines.

Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Tawau are the main town. It's population are mostly the native groups (mainly the Kadazan, Murut, Bajau, Suluk), the Malays, Chinese, Indians and Eurasians. Harvest Festival is the most important celebrated by the native groups.

At the height of 4,095.2m, Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain in Malaysia and the 4th in South East Asia behind Hkakabo Razi in Myanmar (5881m), Puncak Jaya (4884m) and Puncak Trikora (4750m) in Papua, Indonesia.

How to get there

The easier way to get to Sabah is by air (Kota Kinabalu International Airport). Malaysian Airlines and Air Asia fly from Kuala Lumpur daily and several other regional destination link like Manila, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, and Macau.
