Belum, Temenggor

About

Belum-Temenggor is the largest continuous forest in Peninsular Malaysia. It is located in the state of Perak and crosses into Southern Thailand. It is divided into 2 sections. Belum rainforest is located up north right by the Malaysia Thailand border while Temenggor is at the south. It is believe the area covers about 300,000 hectares of rain forest.

The forest is estimated more than 100 million years old. Older than the jungle of Amazon and Congo. With its diverse flora and fauna, tranquility, the beautiful scenery, this places is ideal for tourist and nature lovers.
Belum forest offers a host of adventure activities like jungle trekking, camping, kayaking, fishing and bird watching.

Where is

Belum, Temenggor is located midway between East and West Coasts in Hulu Perak. Approximately 250km from Ipoh and 450km from Kuala Lumpur. The nearest town is Gerik. [click here for map]

How to get there

Belum, Temenggor Lake can be reach by land. From Penang(about 3 hours) follow the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE) and head towards Kulim. Go past Kulim and Baling, head toward Kota Bharu. Do not turn into Gerik. You will reach a bridge that crosses Temenggor Lake to Banding Island. Cross the 1st bridge and just before the 2nd bridge turn left to Banding Public Jetty.

From Kuala Lumpur(about 6 hours) take the North-South Expressway and exit Kuala Kangsar interchange and follow the road sign towards Gerik. Go past Gerik and follow Banding Island/Kota Bharu sign. You will reach a bridge that crosses Temenggor Lake to Banding Island. Cross the 1st bridge and just before the 2nd bridge turn left to Banding Public Jetty.
