I Survived My First White Water Sledging

March 31, 2007, it was a day that full of new experience. Today I drove alone to Gopeng to join 8 others Sledger for a White Water Sledging trip down Kampar river. Beside Scuba Diving you won't be wearing so many gears. You have helmet, booties, life-jacket, fins, board and Wet Suit. Ok the Wet suit is specially design, it has a knee pad and the thickness is about 5-10mm. Oh the wet suit given to me is in pink color, I look like a pink panther in the suit.

Jungle Geckgos guide's Dave & Derick first jump from the bridge into the river. The rest of us start from the side of the river. At the first corner of the river, I managed to control and maneuver to one side of the river to wait for the rest. Then came the rapid, oh my god what am I doing here but after going through it doesn't seem that difficult or scary. I gain more confident as I went through more rapids. In some part of the calm river, I try out a 360 degrees turn. It helps as one of the rapid I lost a bit of control and turn 360 degrees.

Ending Point with all the Sledging gears
On the 2nd run, I even jumped from the bridge. This round I had better control and enjoyed more. Overall it is a new experience and will definitely do it again.
