Niah National Park
Location: 110km from Miri, Sarawak, Malaysia
Believed the oldest modern human was discovered in South East Asia were found here,
making the park one of the most important archaeological sites in the world
Places to visit: Trader's Cave, West Mouth, The Large Chamber and locals' collecting bird's nest.
Itinerary
Day 1
1000 hrs: Pickup at airport to Niah Cave. Takes about 1.5 hour by mini van
1200 hrs: Lunch at Park Café or Restaurant located by Niah Bazaar
1300 hrs: Register at Park HQ, then visit to Archeology Museum
1400 hrs: Trek to the Great & Painted Cave, (Painted Caves is famous of it's boat shape coffin ).
At the same time (if the locals present) we can see a typical way of harvesting bird nest by using bamboo as a ladder
1730 hrs: End of Cave visit and transfer back to Miri Hotel
1900 hrs: Expected to reach Miri.
Day 2
0930 hrs: Fly from Miri to Mulu
1000 hrs: Meet and greet at Mulu Airport and transfer to your hotel (Guest House/Park Long House/
Park Dormitory/Royal Mulu Resort)
1300 hrs: Transfer to Mulu National Park HQ and take a scenic 3km plank walk through primary
rainforest to Deer and Lang's Caves. After exploring the caves, we wait for bat exodus in the
evening where millions of bats emerge from Deer Cave in search for food. Deer Cave has one of
the biggest cave chamber in the world. You can see the side face of President of United States
of America, Abraham Lincoln
1800 hrs: Back to your hotel
Day 3
0830 hrs: After breakfast take a long boat ride to Wind & ClearWater caves. On the way, stop by
Penan Settlement for a short visit then proceed to Wind cave. As the name suggest some part of
the cave are windy. Another 400m walk will be Clearwater Cave.
1200 hrs: Picnic lunch at Clearwater Cave. You can also swim at the clearwater spring before
continue to Long Litut trekking point by longboat.
1400 hrs: Reach Long Litut. Trek 8.7km to Camp 5 (approximately 2-3 hours easy walk).
1900 hrs: Dinner at Camp 5.
Day 4
0500 hrs: Breakfast at Camp 5
0600 hrs: Start to climb Mt. Api. A tough 3-4 hours (2.4km) climb will be rewarded with
spectacular Pinnacles.
1200 hrs: Lunch at Gunung Api Pinnacles View point
1300 hrs: After lunch descend back to Camp 5 (4-5 hours)
1900 hrs: Dinner and overnight at Camp 5.
Day 5
0600 hrs: Breakfast at Camp 5
0700 hrs: Trek back to Long Litut and transfer by boat to Clearwater Cave for lunch.
1100 hrs: After Lunch, proceed back to Park HQ
1300 hrs: Transfer to Mulu Airport for flight to Miri
1910 hrs: Onboard flight back to Kuala Lumpur.
Things to bring
Insect repellent, sun screen, ointment, trekking shoe and sandals, first aid kit, torch light,
rain coat, pocket knife, toiletries, towel, swim gear, cap/hat, energy bar/drinks,
Sleeping bag, Sarong, Toilet Paper.
